CONFINED SPACE ATTENDANT

Overview

The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and accountability of the assigned crew. Responsibilities include maintaining cooling tower in and out report, watching for fire hazards as others perform work and other duties as assigned by the crew Superintendent and Foreman. The successful incumbent must be very organized and able to pay attention to detail. Incumbent must also be able to work well with all levels of employees. Incumbent must also be assertive in adhering to and enforcing all OSHA, ICT and customers confined space and fire watch policies.

  • Ability to maintain ones self in one spot for long periods of time

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Outside or in a plant environment; may be exposed to bad weather and/or excessive heat and noise
  • Hazardous chemicals are typically produced or stored in locations close to Work area
  • Work in confined spaces and at an elevation above 6 with 100% tie-off

Responsibilities

  • Be aware and identify possible worksite hazards
  • Ensure that only authorized personnel enter the confined space
  • Stay within the assigned work area
  • Monitor conditions in and out of the confined space
  • Perform only assigned jobs
  • Do not enter confined area unless a replacement is assigned
  • Be constantly prepared to call for emergency aid when necessary
  • Sign confined space entrants in and out
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Operate a fire extinguisher

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0 - 3 years of construction experience

CERTIFICATION/OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Knowledge and application of safety standards through OSHA training and experience Safety Council trained
  • Confined Space trained
  • Basic knowledge of construction safety guidelines
