Overview

The Equipment Operator report to and receives assignments, instructions and direction from the Foreman and / or Supervisor. Primary function is operation of Rough Terrain Extendable Boom Lifts in additional to performing other related duties and activities pertaining to the job site requirements. Operator must observe and follow all site safety rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE
A key participant in the relationship with the employees, contractors, subcontractors, company and client. The Equipment Operator has the following specific areas of responsibility:
  • Able to demonstrate competency in all aspects of telehandler operations and materials handling while utilizing effective time management and scheduling skills
  • Handles all logistics pertaining to loading and unloading transport trucks as per company procedures
  • Performs general labor as required
  • Moves materials into the project site / cooling tower in a timely manner
  • Responsible to conduct mechanical and safety inspections as required and possess a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong organizational skills including scheduling and time management
  • Ability to read blue prints, sketches or building plans for information pertaining to type of materials required and dimensions of the structure or fixture
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or Field and Area Managers
  • Participates in daily and weekly Safety meetings

Requirements

Below are the initial requirements that you MUST meet in order to qualify for this role:
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from job site
  • Cannot be afraid of heights
  • Pass various client's security clearance processes, as required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 - 2 years’ practical experience as an equipment operator in heavy construction industry

CERTIFICATION/OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Qualified through certification training with minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Qualified training through a third party certification an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge and application of safety standards through OSHA training and experience
  • Certification in CPR and knowledge of first aid
  • Rigging, forklift, and man lift certification
  • OSHA 10
  • Ability to lead a crew of up to 6 employees, assign job tasks, and assist in the management of larger crews
  • Strong knowledge of structural, mechanical, and piping installation 
  • Basic knowledge of the operation of construction tools and terminology
  •  Knowledge of construction safety guidelines
